InspectionXpert OnDemand 2015 -- Released!

The much anticipated "InspectionXpert OnDemand 2015" has been released and is available for download from InspectionXpert.com!

In addition to the standard maintenance performed the following product enhancements have been included:

InspectionXpert OnDemand no longer requires Microsoft Excel! – Previous versions of InspectionXpert OnDemand required Microsoft Excel to be installed on the computer since InspectionXpert OnDemand used Excel’s VB Automation Library to export inspection reports.  Some of our customers use spreadsheet software other than Microsoft Excel (e.g. Open Office, Google Sheets, ect...) and have asked us to enable them to export their inspection reports without requiring Microsoft Excel to be installed.  We listened and made it so.  As an added bonus, customers can now export larger amounts of data from InspectionXpert in a shorter amount of time.  Our new exporter is now 600% to 800% faster! Reports generated will export in the same format as the template used, and automatically save in .xlsx if there is too much data to be saved as .xls.  For customers who are happy with using Microsoft Excel, there is an option to continue using Excel VB Automation-based export.

CMMXpert updates – Updated CMMXpert to work more smoothly with MMX data.  Data can be imported into MMX from CMM files in Degree/Minute/Second format to properly display these angular measurements with the set Pass/Marginal/Fail colors.  Support for the following CMM data formats was added:

  • Q-DAS
  • Faro – CSV
  • Verisurf
  • PC-DMIS XML
  • PC-DMIS Excel/CSV
  • Metrosoft Quartis

Added Characteristic tokens to the InspectionXpert Template Editor

  • “Requirement” displays Nominal + Unit of Measure + Tolerance as one value, which is a requirement for AS9102B compliance. Click here for more details on AS9102B support.
  • “Plus Tolerance / Minus Tolerance” displays +/- tolerance as one value
  • “Sheet + Zone” displays page # + zone as one value
  • “Fit Type” displays the fit type
  • “Fit Grade” displays the grade for the fit type

If you have any questions, comments or ideas for features and capabilities, please feel free to contact your InspectionXpert Sales Representative, Reseller/Partner or contact us directly.

As always, "Thank you for your business".

The independent Excel exporter also allows support for much larger CMM datasets to be presented in reports.

Then you need to think like a decision maker!

All too often we fall into the “employee mindset,” where we’re frustrated by our lack of ability to make a difference and to affect change; we’re just there to fill a role and worry that at the end of the day we’re totally replaceable.  You don't have to fall into that trap!

Making the case for change: How to convince your higher ups that there's a better way

Technology can make our lives easier, but when the current system appears to be working, it can be hard to get buy-in from those above you to implement even the most efficient and time saving solution.

By providing the information your boss will need to understand the value of the software or technology you’d like to implement (starting with the goal in mind) you will gain trust and create a situation where you are working together to find a better solution, than just trying to reduce your own workload.

How Downton Abbey's picture reinforces why Quality Process is important?

If you don’t watch the show, you might have missed the “quality escape” of a photo released on Instagram this morning by Downton Abbey. (Click here to view the Photo). A water bottle isn't significant in most applications, but in a historical drama based in the 1920s, it’s a huge distraction from an award winning cast and plot.

Attention to detail is huge in any line of business, as shown by the photo. But none more so when manufacturing parts that have to meet given specs and geometric dimensions and tolerances. Had the show’s producers reviewed the photo again or edited out the bottle, the photo would have been a great launch to their 5th season. All the publicity would have been about positive aspects of the show, cast, plot twists, etc. Instead, everyone is asking, “seriously, who puts a plastic water bottle on a granite mantle?”
