First Article Inspection (aka "FAI") ensures that the manufacturing process is capable of producing components that meet customer requirements. AS9102 provides consistent documentation requirements for First Article Inspection of aerospace components. The results of an AS9102 FAI are captured in a First Article Inspection Report. AS9102 is an SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) that establishes documentation requirements for First Article Inspection within the aerospace and defense industry. AS9102 is governed and maintained by the International Aerospace Quality Group, IAQG. Asia and Europe follow the SJAC9102 and EN9102 standards, respectively.
For AS9102 compliance, documentation must be generated that will serve as a customer and supplier quality record for planning, accountability review, performing periodic audits, evaluating root cause and performing corrective action. Creation and maintenance of AS9102 FAIs is arguably the most costly and error-prone work associated with AS9102 compliance documentation.
The InspectionXpert product family automates the process of generating AS9102-compliant FAIRs. InspectionXpert identifies and extracts AS9102 Form 1 bill of materials, AS9102 Form 2 material / process specifications, and Form 3 inspection characteristics such as dimensions, tolerances, and notes from your 2D CAD drawings and 3D CAD models (CATIA only for 3D). InspectionXpert has solutions for most CAD drawing formats, including PDF and TIFF, that enable you to quickly add balloons or bubbles to identify dimensions on your drawing.
Reading the dimension values directly from CAD systems including CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Pro/ENGINEER and Solid Edge or from a PDF and/or TIF file via optical character recognition, OCR, provides significant improvement in both speed and accuracy over manual methods. Additionally, InspectionXpert comes with AS9102 inspection report templates out of the box so you can start saving time and preventing errors right away.
